Untamable Tongue
Today’s
devotion is based on St James Chap. 3
According
to James, the tongue is a very unruly evil that is full of deadly poison.
With
it we blessed our God and Father, and with it we curse men. The tongue
is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body. Of every
kind of beast and animals that has been tamed by mankind, the tongue cannot
be tamed.
So many times we try to bridle our tongue and wish that if only we could control it just for a moment. It seems like the tongue has a mind of it’s own, always blurting out the stuff that we would rather be kept hidden. We sometimes say the meanest things and sometimes the sweetest things. “can a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” Our tongue seems to be doing just that. With our tongue we hurt the people we say we love the most. Though small, the tongue is capable of causing great damage.
Trying
to tame the tongue is just not possible because the tongue is just an instrument
of war. It does not operate / function on its own.
There
is a master mind behind it. Yes, it’s the HEART.
THE
TONGUE PROTRAYS THE STATE OF THE HEART. IT TELL WHO WE REALLY ARE INSIDE.
PROVERBS 27V19 “ AS IN WATER FACE REFLECT THE FACE, SO A MAN’S HEART REVEALS
THE MAN”
OUT
OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART THE MOUTH SPEAKETH. THE TONGUE FEEDETH FROM
THE HEART. Mathew 15 v 19
The
tongue does not steer the body, the heart does. If the heart is corrupt
then the tongue doesn’t have any choice but to speak what’s in the heart.
Speech
is like a barometer of spirituality, it reveals our true nature because
it is very unnatural for Christian to praise God and yet have the propensity
to speak evil against others. The tongue can be a conduit of blessing or
an instrument of evil,
depending
on whether it is harnessed by the spirit of God.
THE
TONGUE CANNOT BE TAMED BUT IT CAN BE CHANGED BY ALLOWING GOD TO CHANGE
OUR HEARTS FIRST AND GIVE US A NEW HEART. A HEART TO PRAISE AND NOT TO
CURSE. Jeremiah 24 v 7
Prayer
Lord
Jesus in heaven, please change my heart and give me a new heart. A heart
of praise and thanksgiving. A heart of honor and adoration. A heart
to love and not hate. Lord please take out all this bad stuff that is in
my heart and put only good stuff. Take out this dankness of deception and
fill me with your bright light that will guide me on the path of righteousness
this day. Harness my tongue Lord with your Holy Spirit. Amen
CHANGE
MY HEART OH GOD,
MAKE
ME EVER TRUE.
CHANGE
MY HEART OH GOD,
I
WANT TO BE LIKE YOU.
